In Cristy Road's Graphic Novel-in-progress Bad Habits, the main character's nipple is bitten by a girl she just met so hard, it starts bleeding. "[The Image] is funny out of context," says Road about her New York Based heroine. "But she's just focused on fucking someone who will love her. The [book's] themes are all about destructively dealing with your conflicts, and trying to change that." Road's work will be featured at Ladyfest Chicago this weekend, which celebrates the work of women aritists in music, film, visual art, and spoken word; she'll be in town for the opening art show and party- with a performance by local viola rockstar Anni Rossi- on Thursday 18 at 7pm at Heaven Gallery (1550 N Milwaukee Ave. Second Floor]. Bad Habits will follow Road's illustrated novel, Indestructible, in which the artist inked about grappling with gender identity as a Cuban punk in Miami.
